Maldives Police Service claims that the Twitter account of acting Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz has been hacked.
In a tweet on Friday night, police said that Nawaz’s account has been hacked. “Please stop spreading misleading information,” the tweet said.
Police tweeted this just minutes after a tweet was sent from Nawaz’s account requesting the police force to join the anti-government protests. The tweet also said: “I’m tired of following false orders by President Abdulla Yameen.”
Nawaz was promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police and appointed as the acting police chief about a month ago after dismissing Ahmed Saudee from the post.
