Maldives Meteorological Centre says the South West Monsoon experienced by the country presently will bring heavy rain to the southern atolls.
Speaking to VNews, an official of Met Office said over the next 24 hours the country will experience rain throughout, while the heaviest rain will be over the southern atolls.
The official said a white alert has been issued for islands between Baa Atoll and Addu Atoll. However seas are expected to be calm, the official said.
Meanwhile the rain has resulted in flooding, damaging property and goods in some islands.
According to Met Office, the shift from northeast monsoon to southwest is the cause of the heavy rain throughout the country.
