Dhangethi MP Ilham Ahmed has denied the terrorism charges pressed against him by the State.
Ilham was charged with terrorism on allegations of attempting to overthrow the government.
Ilham’s lawyer Hisaan Hussain said Ilham denied the terrorism charge and stated that a presentation was submitted by the State at the hearing on Wednesday.
However when Ilham stated that the information in the presentation was untrue, the State apologized for having noted an untrue statement, Hisaan said.
Hisaan also said they requested the court to further review Ilham’s detention, but the judge declared that there was no reason to release Ilham from detention.
Hisaan said she also emphasized that Ilham was being kept in isolation in Maafushi Prison, which goes against humanity.
Ilham was charged with terrorism and ordered to be kept in detention pending his trial by Criminal Court on March 21.
Ilham was arrested on February 12 when he appeared at the police station after police announced they were searching for him.
